Natural History Museum of Utah, Salt Lake City

As Senior Exhibit Designer and Project Manager, I worked with Ralph Appelbaum Associates and the Natural History Museum of Utah teams to create the opening exhibits for the new museum building designed by Ennead Architects. The museum exhibits focus on the natural and cultural history of the Intermountain West.

NHMU exhibits explore topics ranging from Utah’s ancient ecosystems and other  science areas  including plant biogeography and genetics. Nine exhibition galleries explore the Utah Sky, Native Voices, Life, Land, First Peoples, the Great Salt Lake, Utah’s Past Worlds, Our Backyard, and Utah’s Future. Each gallery draws from several disciplines and collections, and aims to inspire future stewards of the earth. In the Native Voices gallery visitors can hear Goshute, Navajo, Paiute, Shoshone, and Ute languages welcome them  to  the gallery  through  an immersive soundscape at the center of the circle. Exterior Interpretive elements on the east side of the building reach  to the rising sun and a story circle is set into the hillside. A range of interpretive terraces, trails, and viewing scopes provide context  spotlighting  the site’s unique biological and geological features.
